London commuters

The SWF is here to help......

Welcome to the SWF

The Transport for London Staff Welfare Fund (SWF) is administered by the Transport Benevolent Fund (TBF), Registered Charity No. 1058032. It was established with money provided by TfL, which is kept separately by TBF and used only to help those mentioned in the SWF Deed for the relief of need, hardship or distress.

An explanation of who may be eligible for help can be viewed in PDF format by clicking here. This is necessarily complicated because of the changes which have occurred to the organization of transport in London over the years.

We shall be pleased to advise whether or not prospective beneficiaries are eligible for help. A brief employment history together with employee number or pension reference number will ensure the enquiry is dealt with quickly. Enquiries are welcomed from the prospective beneficiary themselves, from their close relatives, managers, trades unions, charities or anyone else who believes that a present or former TfL employee or their dependant needs help.

We are sorry that no-one else (even if a TBF member) can be helped by the SWF and all help is for individuals - it is not possible to make grants in any other circumstances.

Enquiries should be directed to the Transport Benevolent Fund, 22 Lovat Lane, LONDON, EC3R 8EB, telephone 0300 333 2000 or by clicking here.

All requests for help must be made on the form which will be supplied by TBF. If it is possible to offer help, this will generally be by way of a cash grant, but this is not normally sufficient to meet the full cost of whatever help is needed.

Those still working in the public transport industry are encouraged to join TBF, which (at the discretion of the trustees) provides a full range of help when need arises. If you would like to join TBF, click here.
